...never rat on your friends, and always keep your mouth shut.

When it comes to the mob, nobody does it better than Scorsese and Coppola. Their films--even with their realistic portrayal of the evils of The Life--make you want to be a gangster. Or at least a movie gangster.

Most people think of The Godfather when it comes to mob movies. One and Two are great, but Three just taints these cannoli like a bad penny in your mouth. I'm not even going to go into our hatred of the third in the trilogy at this time. If you haven't seen it, please do us the favor at CoolMovies and keep it on the video shelf. I know I've just told you not to eat the apple, but trust me. Back to the good stuff. The Godfather is beautiful in its soft brown and gold palette. Rich details in script, score, and character make this a must for repeat viewings. On the wild wheel of fortune that is the films of Francis Ford Coppola, this is definitely a glittery $5000 space.

If you still haven't seen Goodfellas--and I know some of you are out there--go buy a copy right now. Not rent. Buy. We feel it could be Scorsese's finest, although that's a tough statement to declare with his rich catalogue. Scorsese blends soundtrack and narrative in a visually exciting, non-stop journey through the decades of the mob. From the glory days to today, we follow a "family" as it changes along with America. Gripping, alarming, disgusting, and hilarious, I won't spoil a thing. Go get it.

Stay tuned for more next week, including a delicious recipe.
