So much to cover and so little space...
The genre of Sci-Fi and the medium of Animation always seem to go hand in hand. At least that's how we'll approach it here at CoolMovies. Both are usually trying to tell a simple tale of moral or intellectual worth veiled in a medium that can easily allow the artist to criticize or the storyteller to weave. Basically fables.
Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, and Ray Bradbury have all used this medium to great effect on paper to tell tales of modern fears and thoughts in displaced time and space. George Orwell even managed to do it both in Sci-Fi (1984) and in--come with me on this--animation (Animal Farm). By removing the self/viewer/reader from the primary setting for the story brings objectivity and distance to the tale.
On film, we can literally be transported to a new place that shares traits with our own experience. From here we can learn about ourselves and our world. If it's from Luke and Han, Jiminy Cricket, or Buzz Lightyear, sometimes it's a little easier to see.
Let's take a look at some CoolMovies in animation and sci-fi
